Karen Phillips

Smith County Clerk

The County Clerk's office is one that serves all of the citizens of Smith County at some point in their lives, and it is important that each individual be treated in an efficient and respectful manner. I intend to create an environment that is service oriented and customer friendly because government should always have a citizens-first attitude.

My 18 years of clerical experience have prepared me for continuing the transformation of the County Clerk's office into twenty-first century technology. It is my intent to lead this office with a proactive records system and a commitment to excellence in serving the taxpayers of Smith County.

Along with excellent customer service, I am committed to working with all of the courts and other departments that interact with the County Clerk's office. Under my leadership, the County Clerk's office will work diligently and consistently to eliminate all bottlenecks and roadblocks to streamlined, efficient work processes. Full implementation of the Commissioners Court's Roadmap Business Plan will be our mission, and I will work closely with the entire Commissioners Court to lower operating costs and do all that I can to help them manage tax dollars wisely.

My husband and I have been married since 1978 and what brings us joy is our love for each other and our two adult sons and a grandson. I was born and raised in Tyler and have lived here all but three years of my life. The principles that guide me each day stem from my biblical values and my parents who taught me to "Work as unto the Lord" and "Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time."

I appreciate the opportunity the citizens of Smith County have given me to serve them since January 2011. Within my service I pledge to always make the citizens proud of the work that's being accomplished through the TEAM of deputies who work in the County Clerk Office.
